Spanning the Generations
I teach teenagers every day. One thing that strikes me about my students is how they love Bob Marley as much as I do. Most of them were born at least 10-15 years after his death, and didn't come to know his music until 10 or so years after that. It really proves that his message and music are timeless. He unites generations in a way that few artists are able to do. It's truly amazing!
Bob himself knew this when he was living. He said, "My music will go on forever. Maybe it's a fool say that, but when me know facts me can say facts. My music will go on forever."

Great Bio on Bob Marley
I recently read this biography of Bob Marley. It is a great book that discusses Bob's early rise to fame. The author goes into a lot of detail about the development of The Wailers and each of the members' contribution to Bob Marley's unique sound. It also goes into a bit of detail about the development of reggae music as a distinct genre. If you're looking for a short, easy, and interesting read this is a good choice. There is also an interesting chapter on the day Bob was shot, as well as how despite this incident, he continued to stand up for what he believed. Inspiring story!

The Legend
This is the first album I ever really listened to by Bob Marley. I was a freshman in college. I know, I was a little late coming. Of course I had friends listening to him for many years before that, but I guess I just never really tuned in. But, man, when I heard Legend I was hooked! Once it went into my CD player it didn't come out for weeks; could've been months. It just transports me in a magical way to a better place; bonfires on the beach, Jammin' with friends, cool nights under the stars, island time. Good Times for sure. It really makes you believe "every little thing is gonna be alright"
